1 Man Who Shot Nine At Splash Pad In Detroit Suburb Took His Own Life

Authorities identified the man yesterday who shot nine people at a splash in Rochester Hills, Michigan Saturday night. Oakland County Sheriff’s spokesperson Stephen Huber said that 42-year-old Michael William Nash was the shooter, and that he died by suicide after a standoff at a home nearby. Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that the gunman had no prior criminal history but suffered from what he called “mental health challenges” in private. According to Sheriff Bouchard, the gunman fired around 28 times and reloaded multiple times; a 9mm Glock and three empty magazines were recovered from the scene. Authorities say they’ve not yet determined a motive in the shooting; the nine victims were ages from four to 78, with an 8-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman in critical condition. The rest of the victims were in stable condition as of yesterday. Rochester Hills is around 25 miles north of Detroit.

2 Chuck Schumer Plans To Brings Up Vote On Bump Stock Ban

It didn’t take long for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to respond to the latest Supreme Court ruling. On Friday, the court struck down a federal rule that outlawed bump stocks, which increase the rate of fire of semi-automatic weapons. The rule was put into place in 2018 after the 2017 mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas, but the 6-3 ruling from the court brought it to an end. Sen. Schumer held a press conference yesterday to announce that he plans to call a vote in the Senate this week to reinstate the ban on bump stocks through unanimous consent, which can be blocked by any single senator. Calling the ban “common sense,” Schumer called the Supreme Court a “MAGA court” for striking down the Trump administration rule. President Joe Biden commented on the ruling as well, and said he’d sign a bill banning bump stocks into law if it reaches to his desk. That’s no easy path, with Schumer saying “we will need votes from Senate Republicans.”

3 Two Killed In Shooting During Texas Juneteenth Celebration

The Juneteenth celebration at Old Settler Park in Round Rock, Texas, ended with two people dead and at least 14 wounded on Saturday. Police Chief Allen Banks told the press the shooting came about after an altercation between two groups at a concert. It’s being reported that the two people killed weren’t involved in the altercation at the concert. Four adults and two children were taken to a local trauma center for treatment of serious injuries. Police say they’re searching for a suspect described as approximately five feet seven inches tall with a thin build and short dreadlocks.
