2 FBI Director Told Congress He's Worried About "Lone Wolf" Attack

FBI Director Christopher Wray testified for a congressional committee yesterday. Wray appeared before the House Appropriations Committee, and while time was spent answering questions about Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which authorizes what are known as “FISA warrants,” the director also had some dire warnings about the possibility of terror attacks on US soil. Wray said the FBI is concerned about attacks from “lone wolves” or small groups, then added, ”But now increasingly concerning is the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, akin to the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russia Concert Hall a couple weeks ago.” Several questions from members of the committee focused on the problems with the immigration system allowing potential terrorists into the country, a topic that was underlined by an exclusive report from NBC News yesterday that revealed that a migrant on the terror watchlist was apprehended and then released into the US. Mohammad Kharwin is currently out on bond with no restrictions on his movements inside the US. The judge who released Kharwin reportedly wasn’t told he was a national security threat.

3 Instagram To Start Automatically Blurring Nudity In Direct Messages

Instagram announced in a blog post yesterday that you’re about to start missing out on naughty bits in your direct messages. The social media giant said in the post that its testing a feature that will automatically blur nudity sent through the DM system on the platform as part of its campaign to fight sexual scams. Instagram says that scammers often use DMs to ask for “intimate images,” which are then used to extort the person. The feature will be automatically turned on for anyone under 18, while adult users will get a notification encouraging them to turn it on. While the images will be blurred, they’ll have a warning and an option for users to view the images anyway, along with a reminder that they can unsend any photos if they change their mind.
