1 Two Bodies Recovered From Site Of Baltimore Bridge Collapse

The remains of two of the construction workers who were missing after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore Tuesday were found yesterday. The two men found were identified as 35-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes and 26-year-old Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera; four others are still presumed to be dead after the cargo ship Dali lost power and ran into a bridge support; the six people were part of a construction team who were working on the bridge at the time it collapsed. The two were reportedly found inside a red pickup truck that was trapped in 25 feet of water near the location of the middle of the bridge. Rescue efforts have been suspended, and efforts have now moved to a salvage operation. It was revealed yesterday that the cargo ship Dali had 56 containers of hazardous materials on board when it crashed into the bridge, holding around 760 tons of mostly corrosives, flammables, and “miscellaneous” materials, according to National Transportation Safety Board chair Jennifer Homendy. She went on to say that officials know that some containers were breached during the incident, but that they don’t know how many, nor do they have a timeline to remove the containers.

2 Four Dead, One In Critical Condition After Illinois Stabbing Spree

A mass killing happened yesterday afternoon in Rockford, Illinois, leaving four dead and five others injured. Police said that the attacker was a 22-year-old who was taken into custody shortly after the stabbing attacks that claimed the lives of a 15-year-old female, a 63-year-old female, a 49-year-old male, and a 22-year-old male. One of the five injured was in critical condition as of yesterday afternoon, with the other four victims listed as being in stable condition. Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd told the press that there were no gunshot victims, while Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana said there was a home invasion in the area of the incident, where the young woman who is in critical condition fled from a residence with stab wounds in her hands and face, with another of the injured was a “Good Samaritan” who stopped to help the woman. Police have so far not established a motive in the mass stabbing incident.

3 Former Sen. Joe Lieberman Dead At 82

The family of former Sen. Joe Lieberman announced in a statement that he died yesterday afternoon at the age of 82 after suffering complications from a fall. Lieberman was the vice presidential nominee in 2000 as the running mate of former Vice President Al Gore, who called Lieberman a man of integrity on X last night. Lieberman was co-chairman of No Labels and was the group’s top spokesman this past year as the group tries to field a third-party ticket. Republicans also praised the former Senator last night, with Sen. Chuck Grassley commending Lieberman’s commitment to working with “anyone regardless of political stripe.” Former President Goerge W. Bush, who won the 2000 election, issued a statement referring to Lieberman as “one of the most decent people I met during my time in Washington.” Liberman’s funeral will be tomorrow in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut.
