1 Feds Seize Rep. Ilhan Omar's Phone, Subpoena Her Family Members As Part Of Investigation

Federal investigators have seized Rep. Ilhan Omar’s phone and issued more than a dozen grand jury orders seeking evidence, including from some of her relatives, according to a person briefed on the case. The Minnesota grand jury is gathering information as authorities examine possible fraud involving Omar’s immigration papers. The investigation led agents to search the Minnesota Democrat’s Washington home on October 12th, weeks before she seeks reelection. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has suggested that investigators are looking at paperwork involving Omar’s family. Democrats condemned the home search, accusing the administration of targeting a political opponent.

2 Cornell President Under Pressure From Faculty Frustrated By How He's Handled Fraternity Rape Allegations

Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff faced angry faculty members yesterday as they began debating a vote of no confidence in his administration. The dispute centers on the school’s handling of a former student’s claim that fraternity members sexually assaulted her in 2024; Kotlikoff has acknowledged he never followed up to learn what happened to her or how the accused students were punished. Faculty debate is expected to continue October 28th, followed by a vote; the result would be largely symbolic but could send a strong message to Cornell’s trustees.

3 Texas Prosecutor Says ICE Officer Appeared To Intentionally Strike A Man With A Vehicle In Houston

A Texas prosecutor says an ICE officer appeared to intentionally hit a man with an SUV in Houston, leaving him with a broken leg. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare says video shows the vehicle driving toward Miguel Parra Hernandez as he ran away, but the actual impact is blocked from view. ICE denies the claim, saying Parra Hernandez ran in front of its vehicle while fleeing officers. Teare is considering criminal charges and says the officer drove away before investigators could collect vehicle data. Parra Hernandez remains hospitalized in ICE custody.
