1 Iran Accuses US Of Violating Ceasefire After Israel Attacks Lebanon
The two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire announced Tuesday night was already showing signs of strain yesterday, with Iran threatening to pull out of the deal over Israel's continued military campaign in Lebanon. The trouble began hours after the agreement took effect, when Israel launched what Lebanon's health ministry called its deadliest day of strikes yet, killing at least 182 people, including residents in multiple Beirut neighborhoods. Iran pushed back hard; Tehran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that stopping the war "on all fronts, including against the heroic Lebanese Islamic resistance" was one of the 10 points in Iran's proposal. The White House said Lebanon was never part of the deal. Iranian state media reported that tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had been suspended in response, with the IRGC-linked Fars agency saying only two oil tankers had been allowed through since the ceasefire. As of last night, peace talks between the U.S. and Iran were still planned for tomorrow in Islamabad, brokered by Pakistan.
2 Crude Oil Prices See Biggest One-Day Drop Since 2020
Oil prices had been surging all day Tuesday as President Trump's Iran deadline approached, with U.S. crude topping $109 a barrel amid fears of massive new strikes. When Trump announced the ceasefire just before the 8 p.m. deadline, prices collapsed more than 9 percent within half an hour, falling to around $96 a barrel. By yesterday morning, with Iran re-closing the strait over Israel's Lebanon strikes, oil remained below $100 but the situation was fluid. Gas prices had hit a national average of $4.14 a gallon on Tuesday, up nearly 39 percent from $2.98 when the war began at the end of February, according to AAA.
3 Husband Arrested In Bahamas In Case Of Missing Woman
Brian Hooker the 58-year-old husband of missing Michigan woman Lynette Hooker, was arrested last night by the Royal Bahamas Police Force in connection with her disappearance. Lynette, 55, has been missing since Saturday night, when Brian told police she fell overboard from their small dinghy near Elbow Cay during rough weather. He said she had been holding the boat's engine key when she went overboard, which cut power to the motor, and that strong currents swept her away before he could reach her. He paddled to shore and reported her missing around 4 am Sunday. Earlier yesterday, Brian posted a statement on social media calling himself "heartbroken" and saying he is still searching for her. The U.S. Coast Guard is leading a criminal investigation into the case, and the search for Lynette has been reclassified as a recovery operation.
