It seems like the 2024 election was just weeks ago, but the 2026 midterm is sneaking up fast, with the primaries already just five months away. Republican primary voters will have more than just candidates on their ballots this year; they'll also have a number of ballot propositions.

Voters will be able to vote on 10 different ballot propositions, which Texas GOP Chairman Abraham George previewed for us. He says Texas Republicans will be asked, "Do they agree that we need to ban Sharia law in Texas? Do they agree that we need to have term limits for our elected officials in Texas?"

He went on to say that while these ballot propositions won't directly become law, they'll still play a major role in Texas politics and explained, "What comes out of these ballot propositions will become priorities for the party because this is not just coming from 10,000 people; it's coming from millions."

We still do not have the complete final text of these ballot propositions, but we do know what they will be. According to reporting from the Texas Scorecard, the propositions are:

  • Ending magnets for illegal immigration
  • Phasing out property taxes
  • Imposing spending caps on government
  • Prohibiting vaccine discrimination in medical care
  • Teaching K–12 students about life and fetal development
  • Stopping the sexualization of children
  • Establishing term limits for elected officials
  • Investing in water infrastructure
  • Banning Democrats from chairing legislative committees
  • Prohibiting Sharia law

For Chairman George, his biggest concern is phasing out property taxes. He said, "You have Texans literally getting kicked out of their houses because they cannot afford to pay the property taxes, despite the house being paid off. People who have been in a home for 50 years are being forced to sell, or their house is getting foreclosed."
