With Congress back from their August recess today, there has been more talk of passing congressional term limits. The Democrats always seem to love the idea of term limits, when they're losing or are not in power.
But there is actually a conservative case -against- congressional term limits.
"What happens with terms limits is, the legislators are cycled out, but the lobbyists, the special interests, and the corporate interests remain in power and they're able to take advantage of the new legislators who cycle in. That's where the real problem is" said political writer and commentator Arthur Schaper, who is also the field director for the international pro-family group Mass Resistance.
The debate over term limits goes all the way back to the beginning.
"The framers of the constitution, they discussed this measure and ultimately they didn't include it in the constitution" Schaper told KTRH, "So, this is an old discussion and it's time for us to look at our wise founders. Term limits is not the answer."
He adds that lawmakers need to be held accountable, and if there's a problem, voters need to vote better and exercise their authority.
