House Speaker Predicts Another Impeachment Push If Dems Regain Majority

As if we are living Groundhog Day once again, the Democrats are unhinged once again as President Trump settles into his second term. In the first, there were various concocted hoaxes, mainly the Trump-Russia hoax, all of which culminated in an impeachment trial. That move failed miserably, and the Democrats have been slowly collapsing ever since.

Midterms are approaching in 2026, and the Democrats are in freefall, desperately wanting to regain a majority at least in the U.S. House. History tends to favor that coming to fruition, as the party in power historically loses seas in midterms. If the Democrats manage to cobble together some wins, House Speaker Mike Johnson has said he believes they will begin impeachment proceedings immediately.

For anyone who has been watching the Democrats the last 10 years, that is no surprise or bold prediction. It is what will happen again and likely fail again. Jeff Charles of TownHall.com says the Democrats though have stayed quieter this time around with the idea. Mostly because they know it will cost them votes.

"Democrats are actually playing it smart and not talking about impeachment because that is a losing issue for them," he says.

That does not mean though they have changed their views on it and learned any lesson. If there is one thing we know with certainty about the Democrat party, it is that they are as stubborn as they are crazy.

"Even if they try to impeach if they take back the House, it is still not going to work out. But they do not care about that. Right now, they are playing it coy and not playing up the impeachment angle...but do not think for one minute that this means they do not plan to do this...they are salivating at the idea of impeaching President Trump," says Charles.

Republicans though are confident in retaining the majority in Washington. Speaker Johnson said recently they believe they can flip a 90-year trend and actually gain seats in the midterms.

That is asking a lot though. Midterms generally are not something that get voters fired up to go out and cast a ballot. So, there is a lot in the air as we get closer to 2026.

Johnson is right that if Democrats regain the majority, they will start with an impeachment likely on day one. But as we also have come to know with Democrats, if that effort fails, more fruitless efforts will follow.

"They are not going to try to impeach Trump just once...they are going to try as many times as they can until he is out of office...that is what is at stake here," Charles says.

He adds that this will all come down to voter turnout. If Republicans can persuade voters to get to the polls, using the Democrats impeachment angle as the bait, then we might see something that has not happened in decades.
