Lawmakers in the Texas Senate have again passed a sweeping ban on hemp derived THC, despite a gubernatorial veto, and massive grassroots pushback during the regular session.

Senate Bill Five is being blasted by activists for banning widely used products, that many Texans use as both mental and physical therapeutics.

Texas Cannabis Policy Center director Heather Fazio released a statement bashing the ban, saying, "Rather than addressing the issue with facts, science, and sound public policy, the Senate has chosen to defy the clear directive of the Governor’s special session call, which is to regulate these products, not ban them outright."

The bill now heads to the House, where it remains unclear if it will be able to pass. It faced an uphill battle during the regular session, and now issues like redistricting and flood relief are front of mind for both voters and lawmakers.
