Study: Google’s AI Summaries Cause Massive Decline In News Website Traffic

More Google games, with the big tech giant at it again. First, it was censorship, and now Google is using AI summaries within their search domain as a way to keep viewers on Google, and away from other websites.

"Google is going for an approach called the 'Walls Garden' said Colin Madine, tech editor at Breitbart News, "They want you to stay on Google owned websites including YouTube, instead of other sites including Breitbart and the radio stations websites, or anything else."

Basically, you type in the subject or story and instead of just getting the Google-picked list of websites and their versions of the story. You now first get an AI summary recapping the story (which is likely not accurate), and then below it, a link to some content on the story that's on YouTube.

"For about 20 years, Google was happy to be the kicking off point of your search for information" Madine told KTRH, "Then they turned around and decided they want you to stay on Google. One way they do that now is through these AI summaries. They try to present what you're looking for, without having you leave Google."

According to a new study from the analytics company Authoritas, some websites have lost 80% of their audience.

And then there's Breitbart. According to the data, since 2016 Breitbart News has been suppressed by Google by more than 99%.

"One thing everyone needs to do is not trust AI as far as you can throw it" Madine told KTRH, "You should not be looking at the AI results on a Google search. When it comes to Google, I wouldn't trust them."

He says the best thing to do is to just go to the websites.
