President Trump’s push to head off anchor babies has hit another setback. A Massachusetts federal judge has blocked the administration from denying automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S. of illegal alien parents. That’s even after the U.S. Supreme Court said lower court federal district judges normally can’t issue injunctions that apply nationwide.
This is the third district court ruling blocking the president’s birthright citizenship order since the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Some states had complained that the order is unconstitutional and that it denies health insurance benefits that are contingent on people being citizens. The issue is expected to end up back before the U.S. supreme court.
