Harris County Has $270M Deficit, and America's Highest Paid Bureaucrats

Despite facing a nearly $270 million dollar budget deficit, it turns out Harris County has some of the highest paid government employees in the country. Including 9 that make more than the $400,000 that the president makes.

"And I can't imagine that the day to day duties are much more difficult than what the president is dong day to day" said Charles Blain, president of Urban Reform, "It's kind of crazy, we're always hearing that there aren't enough resources for things like public safety which just changed, and all of these other financial issues that come out of the County."

It's almost as crazy as Harris County Judge, Lina Hidalgo asking for taxpayer dollars for her trip to Paris.

"Some of our County officials look at the County as their own personal piggy bank, to pursue projects and policies rather than what it actually is."

It's worth noting, 45 Harris County employees make more than cabinet secretaries. Recently, the County approved $12 million in raises for County employees -before- Lina Hidalgo voted against giving pay raises to deputies.
