San Antonio will soon have a direct flight to the nation's capital. On Wednesday, the Department of Transportation gave American Airlines its approval to begin flying nonstops from San Antonio International Airport to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. The Fort Worth-based carrier hasn't yet announced when the service will begin, but it's expected to be in the next few months. Jesus Saenz, director of airports for San Antonio, applauded the federal decision, along with San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro.
