A grant from the Department of Justice will help San Antonio fund the hiring of 50 new police officers next year. The city received the grant of more than $6 million on Wednesday, in time for it to be included in the city council's budget vote on Thursday. The newly approved fiscal year 2025 budget includes 65 new SAPD officers. The city will put up nearly $17 million during the three-year grant period. After that time, the city will be on its own in funding the positions.
