The San Antonio City Council is giving the go-ahead to a plan to build a minor league baseball stadium downtown. Following several hours of public comment, the council voted 9-2 on Thursday to approve the deal involving Bexar County, a developer, and the owners of the San Antonio Missions. The area around the ballpark will be redeveloped to generate new tax revenue to help pay for the $160 million stadium. A low-rent apartment complex is to be torn down to make room for a mixed-use development. Officials say there are several plans to help relocate the displaced residents.
