The state of Texas is suing the Biden administration to try and block a rule protecting the privacy of women who get abortions. Back in June, HIPAA regulations were strengthened to protect the identities of women who have to travel over state lines for the procedure. The rule was put in place after concerns that patients who travel for legal abortions could have their records sought out after the overturn of Roe v. Wade. On Wednesday, Texas filed a lawsuit asking a judge to block that rule, arguing it would restrict state law enforcement investigations. The suit also asks the judge to block a different HIPAA regulation, in which medical providers are only required to provide information for legitimate police investigations.
