Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the City of Dallas over a change in gun policy for the upcoming State Fair. Paxton claims the rule that only active or retired police officers would be allowed onto the fairgrounds with weapons is a violation of state law, since the property is owned by the city. The change is being made after three people were shot and wounded at the fair last year. Both city and fair officials say they stand behind the new policy.

Paxton claims the new rule banning all firearms from the fairgrounds, infringes on Texans’ right to self-defense.

"Texas law clearly states that license to carry holders may not be prevented from carrying a firearm on property owned or leased by the government unless otherwise prevented by state statute,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The State Fair of Texas’s recent policy that infringes on LTC holders’ Second Amendment rights is unlawful. Dallas has fifteen days to fix the issue, otherwise I will see them in court.”
