The San Antonio River Authority is reintroducing freshwater mussels to the San Antonio River. SARA so far has placed five-thousand yellow sandshells into the river. The conservation effort is the first of its kind in Texas. The mussels are expected to filter out harmful bacteria and help improve biodiversity in the river's ecosystem.
