Republicans are gaining support among Hispanic voters in some of the bigger cities in Texas. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the Latino vote by a 27-point margin statewide, but by 2020, Joe Biden's margin had shrunk to 17-points. In Houston, San Antonio, and other major cities, the Democrats' 2020 margin was an average of 17-points lower than 2016 in precincts with at least 80-percent Latino voters. Nearly 40-percent of Latino voters in Texas voted for Donald Trump that year, and if that trend continues, Democrats can forget their long-cherished goal of turning Texas blue.
