Gov. Greg Abbott is requiring public hospitals in Texas to collect information about the immigration status of their patients. The data will enable the hospitals to keep track of the costs of caring for illegal immigrants. Abbott signed the executive order on Thursday mandating the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to collect the information. The state will use it to figure out how much to bill the federal government. Abbott says the Biden administration's open border policies have been causing Texas to pay medical costs for illegals.
