Federal pandemic relief funding for Texas schools is about to end, just in time for the new school year. Texas schools have received more than $19 billion in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds over the past four years. That funding expires on September 30th. Texas lawmakers last year didn't approve an increase to the amount of funding every school receives per student, an amount that's been the same since 2019. A number of school districts are facing budget deficits as a result of years of inflation.
