The trial over whether the federal government can order Texas to remove a buoy barrier in the Rio Grande is postponed until at least November. Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the installation of the thousand-foot-long chain of buoys last year as part of the state's effort to deter illegal immigration. The government claims the buoys violate federal law by interfering with the river's navigability. An appeals court ruled last week that they could stay put while the court challenge plays out. The trial had been scheduled to start today.
