A special election is now scheduled to fill the rest of the current term of U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who died last month at age 74. On Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott set the date for November 5th, the same day as the general election. The special election will fill the vacant seat in Texas' 18th Congressional District for the two-months remaining in the Congress after the election. The district's precinct chairs will choose the nominee a week from tomorrow. The general election will seat a representative for the two-year term starting in 2025.
