U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is blaming the Secret Service for leaving former President Donald Trump open to an assassination attempt for political reasons. During a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committees on Tuesday, the Texas Republican accused the Secret Service of making a political decision to refuse the Trump campaign's requests for extra security. Acting director Ronald Rowe denied the claim, stating, "Secret Service agents are not political." Cruz reminded him that Secret Service leadership is presidentially appointed and is therefore political by definition.
