A civilian employee accused of stealing over $100 million from the U.S. Army will spend time behind bars. Janet Mello was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison. Mello, who had been dubbed the "Gucci Goddess" for her thefts, had worked as a civilian financial program manager at Fort Sam Houston. She was accused of stealing roughly $109 million from the Army by claiming that a child health and development group that she operated gave services to military members and their families, which was not the case. Instead, prosecutors say Mello used the money sent to her by the Army to buy over 1,500 pieces of pricey jewelry along with dozens of vehicles and several houses.
