President Joe Biden claims Texas would have received a federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Beryl sooner if state leaders hadn't dragged their feet in asking for it. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is in charge while Gov. Greg Abbott is in Asia on an economic development trip. A White House spokesperson claims federal officials tried several times to contact Abbott and Patrick before reaching Patrick on Tuesday. Patrick says no such thing happened, and that state officials had to assess their needs before requesting the disaster declaration.
