Scherzer Returns To Lead Rangers Past Royals

Max Scherzer returned to the mound and helped guide the Rangers past the Royals 4-0 from Arlington. The ace threw five shutout innings and gave up just one hit while fanning four batters. He tied Hall of Famer Greg Maddux on the all-time strikeout list. Jose Urena earned his first save of the season after surrendering just one more hit over the final four frames. Josh Smith slugged a solo homer as Texas swept the three-game series and is third in the AL West at 37-and-40. MJ Melendez hit a double for Kansas City. Alec Marsh got the loss after giving up three runs over five-plus innings as KC sits third in the AL Central at 42-and-37.
