The Astros dropped their series opener in Chicago. Houston was shutout by the White Sox 2-0 in the first outing of a three-game set at Guaranteed Rate Field. Alex Bregman and Trey Cabbage each had a pair of hits in the setback. Starting pitcher Framber Valdez was charged with the loss and slipped to 5-and-5 after striking out five batters and allowing two runs through six innings. The Astros have split their last six games to sit at 33-and-40. They visit the White Sox again tonight. Right-hander Hunter Brown will start opposite Chicago southpaw Garrett Crochet.
