SAPD Chief William McManus says the department is ready to deal with any attempts to carry out a mass shooting. McManus told the city council's Public Safety Committee on Tuesday that they're trained and capable of dealing with a threat anywhere it may come up, whether in a school, a business, a hospital, or anywhere else. He said he and local school district officials have already discussed who'll be in charge at the scene, which was a matter of confusion during the Uvalde school shooting in 2022.
