A school bus enroute to pick up students for a field trip is one of several vehicles involved in a major San Antonio accident with injuries on a South Side highway early Wednesday.

Police say the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90 were shut down after the collision was reported at about 8 a.m. on the highway close to downtown near Interstate 35 and Nogalitos Street. Pre-K 4 SA officials said there were no children on board at the time of the accident.

Police say three people were transported to the hospital, one in critical condition.

Bexar County Sheriff's deputies said a speeding SUV crashed into school bus and that caused a chain reaction that caused a pileup involving eight vehicles. Investigators say it appears two vehicles had been involved in some type of road rage incident just before the wreck.
