Gov. Greg Abbott is crediting his border security initiative with a recent decrease in the number of illegal border crossings. Abbott pointed out in a recent TV interview that the number of illegals trying to cross the Rio Grande has dropped in the first three-months of this year. He linked the decrease to the state National Guard's seizure of a 50-acre park in Eagle Pass as part of Operation Lone Star. Abbott launched the initiative in March 2021.
