Aimee Harris, the Flordia woman who stole the diary of Ashley Biden and sold it to Project Veritas, was sentenced to one month in prison by Judge Laura Taylor Swain.
She was also sentenced to an additional three years of supervised release after her prison term.
Biden left the diary and other personal items at a friend's house in Delray Beach, Florida, when she moved out in 2020. The owner allowed her to leave the items in the house and rented the room to Harris.
When Harris found the items, which included a digital storage card, books, clothing, and luggage, she worked with Robert Kurlander to sell them. The pair offered the diary to the Trump campaign, but they declined. The two then reached out to Project Veritas, which gave them $20,000 each for the diary and some of the other items.
While Project Veritas did not publish the contents of the diary, another website did.
Prosecutors requested between four and ten months behind bars for Harris.
"She wrongfully exploited her physical access to the intimate belongings of someone whom she did not know personally, but knew as a public figure who whose property would fetch a handsome price tag," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum. "Stealing personal belongings of a candidate's family member, and selling them to an organization to exploit them for political gain, was wrong and illegal no matter the political agenda."
