Today's total solar eclipse will effect the state's power grid. There will be no sunshine on the acres of solar panels that help pump electricity into our homes.

"During the eclipse, our solar generation is going to be no more than 7 or 8 percent of what it would be if we had full sun," said Tom Overbye.

Overbye, who heads the smart grid center, says that will not be a big deal. Eclipses are predictable, so the operators of the state's power grid have been planning for today. Extra generation is being brought online to make up for the loss in solar power. He says we should not predict any calls for conservation.
