Austin city officials are trying to cut back on the number of serious head injuries related to e-scooters. As a result, the city will only allow Bird and Lime e-scooter vendors in Austin.

That means nearly 2,000 e-scooters from Link can no longer operate in the city. That reduces the total number of licensed scooters to about 6,700, with 3,000 being Bird scooters and 3,700 of them being Lime scooters.

Officials say anyone operating an e-scooter in the main entertainment district can only go 10 miles-per-hour moving forward. The new regulations start today.
