60 Years Ago This Week, I Became a Beatles Fan

On a night in February 1964, I was transfixed to this television screen as a three year old.

It was in Knob Noster, Missouri. My Dad was stationed there at Whiteman Air Force Base.

The music seemingly encoded into my DNA. Every single, every album, from that night forward either my sisters or I acquired and listened to countless times.

The Beatles created the soundtrack of my childhood, my youth and my adult life.

And it all began for me here. In this living room. Watching this television. With my sisters Beth and Rosemary and my Mom sitting next to me.

“All My Loving” followed by “Till There Was You,” then “She Loves You.” Yeah, yeah. yeah.

The hour-long Ed Sullivan Show broadcast concluded with The Beatles singing “I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

I'm listening to their music regularly 60 years later. Amazing.

I was blessed to be born in the Sixties.
