Records indicate high rearrest rates for Bexar County defendants bonded out by the Texas Organizing Project. Almost 30% were later rearrested for the same case, while others were later charged with more serious crimes. Since late 2022, the advocacy group has bonded out Bexar County defendants charged with vehicle theft, family violence, and deadly hit and run. Last year, the group bonded out Shane James, a family violence suspect, who then killed his parents and four other people in San Antonio and Austin.
