San Antonio City Manager Erik Walsh is naming an interim fire chief to replace former Chief Charles Hood. Walsh appointed Chris Monestier to the interim position on Thursday, just over a week after Hood retired. Valerie Frausto will serve as interim deputy chief over administrative services. Monestier and Frausto are both longtime veterans of the San Antonio Fire Department. Hood stepped down following a probe into inappropriate and offensive comments he'd reportedly made.
