San Antonio Zoo officials are announcing the birth of the zoo's first babirusa piglet. The endangered babirusas are native to the tropical forests of Indonesia. They usually give birth to only one or two young, so each birth is a rare event. The youngster is bonding with its parents while awaiting its public debut.

"We are thrilled to welcome this baby to our family - the first-ever babirusa birth at San Antonio Zoo," says Tim Morrow, President & CEO of San Antonio Zoo. "While some may describe these little ones as 'ugly babies,' we can't help but find them irresistibly adorable with their unique and unconventional charm. We can't wait for the public to fall in love with this precious little babirusa."

Unlike other pig species, babirusas give birth to only one to two piglets, making each birth a precious and rare event. The successful delivery by first-time mother Sula showcases her maternal instincts and the exceptional care provided by our dedicated animal care team.

The birth of this precious baby babirusa represents a testament to San Antonio Zoo's commitment to conservation and education. As the first-ever babirusa birth at our zoo, it is a momentous occasion that highlights the dedication and expertise of our animal care team.
