Texas economic leaders and developers say the state had better get ready for a coming population surge in the Austin and San Antonio area. The region is expected to grow from just over five-million to more than eight-million people by 2050. At a panel discussion in Austin on Wednesday, participants said investments in transportation, affordable housing, and water supply are needed to support the growing population. Two-thirds of Texans live in the metro areas of San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth.
