More than a dozen new Animal Care Services officers will hit the street to deal with stray dogs in San Antonio. On Wednesday, 16 officers joined the force, making for the largest-ever graduating cadet class at ACS. City Council boosted the agency's 2024 budget to more than $28 million to provide for another 29 positions. ACS Director Shannon Sims says paid apprenticeships and salary increases are helping recruit and retain personnel. Sims says he hopes to hire another 15 officers by next year.
