Governor Greg Abbott is continuing to urge state lawmakers to pass a school choice bill. Abbott spoke on Monday at a parent empowerment rally at the state Capitol. The Texas Senate passed a $500 million school choice bill last Thursday. It would give $8,000 in public funding every year to each qualifying student to help pay for private school tuition or other education costs. The House has opposed such proposals. House members may start discussing the bill as soon as this week.
