Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is blaming Congress for a "broken" immigration system that's led to a surge in illegal border crossings. Mayorkas traveled to south Texas over the weekend to meet with the president of Honduras. The two officials met with Customs and Border Protection personnel and toured C-B-P facilities in the area before their meeting. Mayorkas said his department will keep working to remove illegal immigrants as quickly as possible while providing "humane pathways" for those trying to enter the U.S. legally. Mayorkas also criticized Congress for a potential government shutdown that could force border protection employees to work without pay for an indefinite period.
