The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to take on the New York Jets on Sunday. Dallas Head Coach Mike McCarthy says the team was looking forward to playing Aaron Rodgers, but now that won't happen with Rodgers out for the season with a torn ACL.
"I think everyone was excited for the challenge, that's only natural to play against a great player, but I think at the end of the day, we need to get to 2 and O," said McCarthy.
McCarthy, who coached Rodgers at Green Bay, says he was watching the Jets game on Monday night when Rodgers was injured.
"I think like everyone, you're hoping it wasn't serious," said McCarthy. "You know it kind of reminded me of a play in 2018 against the Bears. It happened early in the game. He went in and they told me on the headset he was done for the year and he came out at halftime and threw three touchdowns and won the game and played the rest of the year, so that's what I was hoping. But yea, I feel terrible for him."
Zach Wilson will take over the Jets' quarterback job. McCarthy says he may not be Aaron Rodgers, but the Jets are still an improved team. "This is a very good football team and they have weapons in all three phases. I was impressed with their team," said McCarthy.
Kickoff is set for 3:25 on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
