San Antonio's new city budget includes more than a million dollars for cleaning up homeless encampments. Solid Waste crews have to clean up the same encampment areas a few weeks after clearing them out. Crews are removing mattresses, shopping carts, and even wood structures from drainage tunnels and highway underpasses where people live. During the recent budget presentation, City Manager Erik Walsh said contracted crews will help with the cleanup, and the city will add two more outreach positions for the homeless.
