A new state law will provide funding to sheriff's offices in rural counties. Senate Bill 22 set up a grant system to boost rural law enforcement agencies by $330 million. A county's population will determine how much money it will receive each year, for both the sheriff's office and prosecutors' offices. Counties can spend the money to increase salaries and purchase new equipment, although the law requires minimum pay requirements for certain law enforcement roles be met first.
