A man accused of shooting two San Antonio police officers is in custody following a standoff that lasted for hours on Thursday. Acting on a tip, officers tailed 28-year-old Jesse Garcia who had warrants out for his arrest.
SAPD says the officers began following Garcia as he left in a vehicle. Garcia began shooting at officers with a rifle striking two of the officers. A vehicle pursuit ensued after Garcia carjacked a motorist and fled to an apartment complex on Westward Drive. Garcia exited the vehicle and began firing at the officers, striking a third officer multiple times. Garcia then barricaded himself in an apartment of a known associate. Police quickly established a quadrant around the apartment complex. SWAT and the Negotiations Team began trying to work the situation. After several hours the suspect was taken into custody.
In addition to his outstanding warrants (Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Evading Arrest or Detention in a Vehicle, and Burglary of a Vehicle) Garcia will be charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer (5 counts); Aggravated Kidnapping; and Aggravated Robbery.
