The Austin Police Department is discontinuing its use of nonlethal beanbag rounds. Assistant Police Chief Robin Henderson issued a memo on Friday saying the decision was based on conversations with the Travis County D-A's office. The discussions reportedly focused on the possibility that officers could be prosecuted for using the rounds. Several Black Lives Matter rioters were injured by beanbag ammo in 2020, resulting in charges against officers and millions paid in settlements to injured persons.
