More Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are being deployed to Austin, despite the city announcing it was doing away with its partnership with DPS. Governor Abbott ordered an additional 30 troopers for the city. Earlier this week, Austin city officials announced a suspension for the partnership between APD and state police. APD Chief Joseph Chacon said that he was disappointed about the news of the suspension as he credited members of the DPS for helping lower crime in the city.
