Public health officials are confirming that the state's first case of the West Nile virus in 2023 is in Dallas. Dallas County Health and Human Services says a resident is diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease, which affects fewer than one-percent of the people bitten by an infected mosquito. The Texas Department of State Health Services reminds people to protect themselves and their families from mosquito-borne diseases by wearing long sleeves and pants, using bug spray, and getting rid of standing water.
