A crowded field of Democrats are lining up to take on Senator Ted Cruz. The latest to announce his candidacy is Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez. He represents a stretch of rural land that includes the tiny town of Uvalde. He rose to prominence after last year's massacre, using his seat in the state legislature to rally for more gun control measures. All of them, including a ban on assault weapons, fell flat. Gutierrez is not up for re-election until 2026, meaning he will not have to give up his state senate seat to run for higher office.
